As some of you are aware, I am training for a sprint
triathlon (325 yard pool swim, 12 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) to be held on May
22nd at the Casco Bay YMCA in Freeport Maine at 9am. You can find out more
about the Tri for the Y, here: http://www.
I decided to raise money for a cause that is near and dear to my heart - the Logan Sweet Foundation.
My brother and sister-in-law started the Logan Sweet Foundation after their oldest son, Logan, passed away in May of 2008. They started the foundation in order to “raise awareness of viral myocarditis, and to promote good health and eating habits as well as the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.”
You may or may not know that I am not much of a swimmer, biker, or runner. So you may be wondering “Why a triathlon, then?” The answer is simple - for Logan. I registered and started training for the triathlon on January 22, 2010 - what would have been Logan’s 8th birthday.
I know that Logan would love the idea of a sprint triathlon and I am training for and will complete this triathlon in his honor and memory. Every time I train, I think of Logan. Every time I feel too tired to swim, bike, or run any further (and believe me when I say it’s quite often!), I think of the little boy with so much energy and I am able to go the extra distance.
If you are able to support me in my attempt to raise money for the Logan Sweet Foundation, please know that no amount is too small and each and every donation is very much appreciated. I have no idea when I might cross the finish line. On race day, as with every day I train, I will be swimming, biking, and running for Logan. My goal is to finish and even if I have to float, coast, or walk during the event, barring injury, I will cross the finish line with Logan in my mind and heart. Thank you very much for your support.

Wear these shirts and think of me. Wear them when you’re gardening, working, playing outside, working in your shop, playing sports, studying, planting, making music, knitting, camping, baking, fishing, sleeping or resting. I will be with you.
